One of the most common questions we get here at BabyWave Ultrasound Studio in St. George is: “When should I schedule my ultrasound for the best pictures?”
Every stage of pregnancy is special, but certain weeks give you especially clear, memorable images of your little one. Here’s a simple, friendly guide to help you pick the perfect time.

First Peek: 14–20 Weeks
This is when many parents love to come in for their very first look at baby. At this stage, you can often see your little one’s whole body in a single view — tiny kicks, stretches, and plenty of wiggles.
It’s a great time for:
Gender reveals
Watching your baby’s early movements
Getting those first bonding keepsakes
Features aren’t fully developed yet, but the activity is so fun to watch!
That Cute Little Face: 26–32 Weeks
This is the sweet spot for 3D/4D ultrasounds.
By now, baby has filled out enough to show adorable details, but still has plenty of room to move around. This is when you’ll likely capture:
Clear facial expressions like smiles, yawns, and pouts
Sweet little hands and feet in motion
Beautiful bonding moments for the whole family
Most moms say this is when baby starts looking the most “real.”
Baby Filling Out Nicely: 33–36 Weeks
No matter when you visit, these simple steps help us get the clearest view:
Stay hydrated in the days leading up to your session
Eat a light snack about an hour before
Sip a little juice 10–15 minutes before your appointment to encourage some extra wiggles. If you’ve forgotten this step, no worries. We’ll have some juice for you at the studio.
